New review in light of spending squeeze The Scottish Executive is inviting written responses from partner bodies in attempts to re-ignite interest in its Digital Inclusion Policy. The Executive will also be talking to the public at a series of meetings across Scotland. The review comes as government spending is now "very carefully prioritised and monitored", the Executive says, and the questionnaire is part of an attempt to "consider new and innovative ways of working" to make sure that any initiatives are sustainable and cost-efficient. Most concerned about awareness and take up issues, the questionnaire shows the Scottish Executive is also keen to develop partnerships and learning support. Consistency is also an issue. The questionnaire covers: Aware and promotion Access Support Skills Content and Community Involvement Service and Delivery and Closing the Opportunity Gap This consultancy looks to update the Connecting Scotland's People strategy document, launched in 2001, was an attempt to overcome the digital divide through better IT training and improved accessibility. The initiatives begun as a result of this plan, such as a CD-ROM-based training course, the development of two digital communities and the creation of 800 public internet access points, have since been wound up. Public meetings to discuss the policy update have so far been planned for Dumfries, Dundee, Pollock, Stornoway and Tiree. The questionnaire has been sent to organisations as diverse as Stonewall Scotland, mental health and rural partnerships. Responses, which will be viewable by the end of the year on the Scottish Executive Consultation web site, are invited to arrive by 27 Jan 2006. A report is due in February. + link to consultation document Ella Smith International Teledemocracy Centre Napier University 10 Colinton Road Edinburgh, EH10 5DT Telephone: +44 (0) 131 455 2392 Fax: +44 (0) 131 455 2282 Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://itc.napier.ac.uk http://www.highlandyouthvoice.org/home.asp This message is intended for the addressee(s) only and should not be read, copied or disclosed to anyone else outwith the University without the permission of the sender.
