But it's silly that two so different arrays have the same textual representation: import std.stdio; void main() { auto a = ["1", "2", "3"]; auto b = [1, 2, 3]; writeln(a); // prints [1, 2, 3] writeln(b); // prints [1, 2, 3] } For the first array a textual representation like this is better because you can tell apart strings and integers from the printout: ["1", "2", "3"] This problem is the one that originally made me start putting bug reports in Bugzilla, it's my the first bug report and I regard it as important enough: http://d.puremagic.com/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=3813 Bye, bearophile
