As "general purpose" answer is not giving any useful
information.
Many "general purpose" languages are applicable for everything,
though they found some specific areas of usage.
I think we will see! Currently I use D at university for games
and graphics in two of my courses, and I think that's an
excellent domain for D (which happens to match my professional
interests). Previously students have used D for networked
painting applications (See DConf 2023 talk) in courses in
software engineering. I will provide some guidance to folks at
the hackathon on projects, but I will also be very curious to see
what they choose organically.
