The decision was that we will officially support only the latest release of
FreeBSD - which is currently FreeBSD 11.1. And that's what the autotester
tests. Having FreeBSD 12 work is obviously fine, but it's not officially
supported, and it certainly won't be supported in a manner that breaks FreeBSD
11. FreeBSD 12 will only be officially supported once it's actually released,
and at that point, we will drop support for FreeBSD 11.

The main issue related to this is issue #17596. There has been some discussion
there on how to make FreeBSD 11 and 12 work at the same time, but someone has
to actually figure it all out properly and do the work, which no one has yet
done.
