Your experience is exactly what the D community needs to get
right. You've come in as an interested user with patience and
initially D has offered slightly disappointing performance for
both technical reasons and because of the different compilers.
His concern is with the default settings of Dub. I've tried Dub
and given up several times, and I've been using D since 2013. The
community needs to provide real documentation. It's embarrassing
that it's pushed as the official package manager and will soon be
included with DMD.
