Actually, it seems BountySource is experimenting with a monthly payment model: https://salt.bountysource.com/ Invite only at the moment, but I think you can submit request if you are the project leader.
Interesting, they seem to recognize the problems I have with their main service... perhaps they can become the patreon of open source if they pull this off.
