Best value for me was my Drake 2-NT and NC-300
Bought them used for $100 and $130. Had them as a novice for about a year and a
half then sold them for the same as I paid for them. Can't ask for a better
value than that!
Or maybe it is my self supporting crank up,
tiltover tower that I finally got put up! My realtor who
sold us our house knew I was a ham and had an associate that needed it
taken down (owner was silent key) with a house sale pending. He made the
mistake of telling me he had a contractor who would haul it away for $700. Well,
gee! I am sure I can get it out of there for..uh..say...$350! Sounds good? When?
TOMORROW! Rain or shine!!
Overall, my IC-746 is the best value just because
it is the newest thing I have, in a radio anyway. You get 100 times the radio
now then what you got in the past for much the same cost!
Think of what you got in the 50's with the cost of
a new Viking Valiant and an NC-300. Then in the 60's with a set of Drake Twins.
The Coolest thing I ever bought is my BB-3
Screwdriver antenna. Bought it when they first came out and still have it. It
far exceeded my expectations in performance and ease of use.
I got the most use out of an Icom IC-740 and before
that a Kenwood TS-520SE. I have owned a pretty fair bunch of ham stuff through
the years, about 35 years. Never was disappointed in anything I had. All good
memories. Wish I could say the same for some computer software I paid good
money for that was garbage, not ham related software, just software in
general!
