The government is not the public. The public won't take our HF frequencies. There isn't that much the public can do with them. (That's assuming, of course, that the government doesn't do away with all licensing reqmts like they did with CB) The government might take them. If so, it will take them regardless of what we do. And I don't see much difference between amateur radio operator/vendors carving out wideband channels on HF for use by these government and non-government customers (thus restricting the use of the spectrum for the rest of the amateur community) and in the government taking them away from us and giving them to the government and non-government agencies. The Amateur Community loses the use of the spectrum in either case. And these channels *will* be carved out since the vendors will need to have them available if and when the customer demands. It's why the automatic robot operators are pushing so hard for additional spectrum.
