You're right, Greg sold his packet equipment at the Lancaster Winter hamfest atleast a couple years ago.I think Rusty, Vern, and Karl are all out of it too including the 56K Backbone and IPBUFF (switched to APRS and I-Gate) have both disolved.
 
However, I have heard discussion lately about newer hams starting back up with packet and setting up their own nodes and backbone links.

That's interesting, I talk to Greg KE2VW quite regularly (on 2M FM) and did not know he was active on digital modes (Other than long-ago packet BBS operations).
