Andy your'e not the only one concerned about this, For a while now I've
been trialling most of the systems that have potential for putting data
to and from the field. RFSM has been the best experience for cold start
users and it can send and retrieve files to the host station PC.

The trouble with webmail is too much bandwidth for so little message =
impossibly slow over a HF link thats why PSKmail etc. make use of just
transferring the subject lines rather than downloading everything.

I get the impression that the best option is to purchase eeePC type
devices and preload the appropriate programs ready to hand out to
operators rather than rely on them trying to setup their own gear.
Cheaper than buying Pactor modems, anyway.
