Log message:
Teared it apart and set it back together. We now have preliminary support
for multiple files. At the moment this is limited to image files. This change
is loosely based on a patch provided by Johannes Zellner.

The code could be much cleaner, but it is at least better than it was before.
More cleanups and support for multiple videos will follow...
