By checking the old posts to the list I read about the two video 
providers you have been working at: Xine's and Mplayer's.
I'll try to compile and use them.
What's the most promising one (in terms of resource occupation and 
functionalities) according to you ?

yes for a start I thik so, in the meantime I managed to make the simple df_window 
modification work

as Oliver predicted it would :-)
