[directfb-dev] matrox G400 FB on 2.6

In trying to get directfb working on 2.6.7 (rc1 is the kernel currently
on this machine) but I can't even seem to get a working framebuffer
first.

My video card is a G400 DH:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Matrox Graphics, Inc. MGA G400 AGP (rev 04)

and my kernel is without matroxfb compiled in.  So I boot the kernel and
then run:

# modprobe matroxfb_base

and then get garbage on the screen, looking like video memory
corruption.

I am going about this all wrong?
