As I know vga16fb mode uses 4 planes video memory, we must split a pixel into 4 bits and write them to different planes. I don't know if there are some emulation code in linux vga16fb driver to emulate vga16 into a 4 bits packed pixel format. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I wonder if it is possible to get directfb working on a vga16fb
framebuffer. Anything I try leads me to the "Current mode not
supported" error...
This will be supported after I've been integrating the 4bit patch from James Su. I'm sorry that I didn't finish that yet.
