Hi, Have you seen Andreas Robinson's mtest application? It already does hardware decoding under DirectFB.
It does much as you describe - there is a DirectFB patch necessary to get the framebuffer offset once the buffers have been allocated. It has its own MPEG parser and doesn't need ddmpeg - it's kernel independent. I have a patch for DirectFB which enables YV12 format blitting which I can post if required - unfortunately it breaks other accelerations of YV12 surfaces (e.g. clear etc) and I haven't yet got around to sorting this which is why I haven't formally posted it yet.
