Ack -- I buried the replacement for the fifth '-' in angle
brackets, which as I look at it now in my mail viewer, has
been swollowed. That line should have read like:

socka5 - - - - yourProxy.dom.com:yourPort

Mine is:
socks5 - - - - mysocksproxy.dom.com

The port defaults to 1080 and works for projects like opal-desktop. The following
commands worked without error.

runsocks cvs -d:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/opal-desktop login

runsocks cvs -z3 -d:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/opal-desktop co
opal-desktop/sound_server

So I'm assured that the proxy socks server is working - it just doesn't like something
with directfb.org.
