I have the same goal but it seems to be hard to achieve it. My system is a
DVB-T budget, G400 with a scart-rgb cable from the 2. head to a 4/3 TV
and a normal VGA at the 1. head. With mplayer -vo dfbmga dvb://channel I
can watch dvb channels on my tv just fine and with vdr-xine plugin it's
possible to watch VDR on the XFree VGA. How to get the VDR image to TV is
yet unknown to me. =(

OT:
Ville, do you think it would be possible to port the dfbmga stuff to xine?
There seems to be some sort of (outdated?) support in xine-ui for
directfb. There are 2 other "softplayer"plugins for VDR (softdevice and
softmpeg) with directfb support but atleast I can't get them to work, just
getting a green/blue screen on my TV. It's also hard to debug this because
atleast the console is frozen.

Take a look at the matrox howto Ville has written, it has good
instructions what to compile into the kernel.
