How is your approach different from other HTPC apps, such as mythtv and
VDR?

It's not easy to say with some words. The main reason is, that we tested a
lot of applications (Linux: MythTV, VDR; Windows: MyTheatre, Sceneo, Open
Source Media Center, ProgDVB and so on).
The problem is, that every application has fantastical features, but all
functions we need are not in one application. And, we would like to support
small computer systems, like small TV boxes (without X11 support).
We don't need powerful machines in our living room.

Now, we try to combine all the features:

1.) The open plugin system of Meedio. It's fantastic, but based on windows
:-). We have developed plugins for meedio, so we found some weakenings, we
tried to solve with Morphine.
2.) Many applications have a port to DirectFB, but we think, it's better to
work only with DirectFB.
3.) Small system support, for example embedded linux systems.
