I'm starting development of an application that seems to fit well with DirectFB.

It is essentially a full screen scrolling display - Pretty much like
you see with a multi-channel EKG/ECG machine.

As it will be a stand-alone application, I'm not worried about sharing
with other applications.

Is it fairly straight forward to smoothly scroll a large area?

I have a system with an ATI Radeon X300 graphics chipset built in.
I've heard of problems wotking with ATI in Linux. Would you suggest
using the proprietary blob driver, or the open-source one?

Or, I could throw in a Matrox G550 card in another slot, and run
DirectFB on that. It seems that Matrox is well supported by DirectFB
as they provide open source drivers. This would also allow for using
the main display for the development windows.

Also, I undurstand that Matrox supports the Vertical Blank Interrupt
(VBI) which should allow for cleaner scrolling by avoiding tearing.
Is this correct?

TIA,
Steve
