The hardware does do stretch-blits, but only for powers-of-two.  We
worked on using the hardware for other stretches, but there were
problems with artifacts at the edges of surfaces that we couldn't
resolve.

The keyboard layout is done in the kernel, so it's not too hard to
load an alternate one, although you'll probably need to fake out part
of the system as we're already loading one of two different key
layouts at boot time.

Yes, I'm also a Foleo development engineer.  Working with DirectFB has
been great -- we have a development guide up at pdn.palm.com, but the
SDK isn't out just yet.
