A simple way to descibe keymapping into a file, such as a config files for xmodmap could be interesting. Adding to that an option in user's .directfbrc which would map a keymap config file for any keyboard device
for instance an option like keymap=/dev/keyboard,/home/me/keymap1 keymap=/dev/input/event0,/home/me/keymap2 ... Which would load the keymap at device initialisation (after having checked that this device is really a keyboard) I don't know if there are lower-level issues, but I think it wouldn't be difficult to had.
