Hm... pushing my knowledge here..
You might want to have a look at apps like df_fire or df_andi which do use the complete buffer while not displaying the mouse pointer. I had a small issue with your app since there is a double loop which uses WIDTH twice, but is initted with alloc of WIDTH*HEIGHT..
