Or you can do what I've had to do in the past... Mount the Linux disk space on the mac using the AFP (netatalk) then do a local/local rsync from the mac drive to the AFP mounted directory on the dirvish server.
And yes..there is a patched rsync for mac that is a bit more friendly (error resistant) than what Apple provides..
