The file you would need is /etc/passwd. I wouldn't bother, though. The owners 
that you see with the ls command are translated from the uid (user id) that is 
actually stored to the string representing that owner if one exists. What is 
stored with the file is the same though.

  I noticed that when we run a full system backup to another server, some of 
the ownerships are set wrong, for example folder which owner should be 
xx2000:xx2000 is in the backupped server just 2000:2000. Is it possible to get 
the right ownerships by copying the data from /etc/shadow to the backupping 
server(*in debian)? I guess that file holds the information for the users.
