That option is "dateext". Make sure your version understands it.

The "savelog" command (used at least on Debian and derivatives) also
understands a "-d" option that uses a date format like logrotate,
although it includes the time, not just the date (as you can call
savelog more than once a day). Here also you need a suitably recent
version.
