Oh kay... I just had the impression that dirvish-expire does some magic
to keep the links consistent because it seems to take quite a lot of
time to expire one backup step. But maybe it is just because there are
so many files/links to remove.

Thats true but here I use a rented rootserver in our colo datacenter (to
keep the backup traffic mostly where it wont kill our uplink) and
upgrade options for that server are either not available or extremely
expensive.
