I'm a very new user, any help/advice would be appreciated!

In what way is Electric "unable" to export GDS? Is it giving an error message? Is it producing GDS that is incorrect?

Electric needs to know how to associate everything in the external file formats (DXF, GDS, etc.) with things in its own database. The DXF and GDS preferences handle this. One potential problem is that DXF input creates "Artwork" objects in the Electric database. However these Artwork objects are unknown in GDS, and so you may export an empty GDS file. The solution (if this is what is happening) is to set GDS layer numbers for the layers in the Artwork technology.

Thanks for the reply. I spent a week stumbling through the interface before developing sufficient understanding for how to do this simple task ... by that time, I'd forgotten about my posted question.
