Hi Fred,

which backend are you using? You list the nfont that is only used by the
art backend, but the output from program looks like it is having
problems with the xlib backend. And even worse, it is using the most
outdated font mechanism in this backend. Perhaps you could just switch
over to the art backend or enable Freetype for the xlib backend and your
problem would be gone.

I am using libart now and the problem is gone!
