I cannot help you with the gpbs process being so slow. From what I can 
tell it time outs while trying to get a valid time stamp, that is we are 
not even interacting with another application. It may just be that newer 
X Servers are clever enough to optimize away our null append property 
operations.

(Excuse my english) OK, if I install gnustep-startup-0.20.0, GWorkspace, Gorm, 
etc. and after restart the computer, all work fine. I don't know way, because 
before I didn't need to do. Maybe gpbs need run as root (My file rc.local run 
gpbs). The first seconds is slow but after run fast.
