+1 for IRC for me.  Unfortunately I got a new ISP and libera has my IP 
blacklisted so I am limited to freenode.  As soon as I am unbacklisted I will 
join the channel on libera.  I tried to join zulip again some time ago but it 
required admin approval. I think the only better alternative would be GNUchat?
