The UK systems uses tags (IPSTAGS) for registrars. It's the same as gTLD's,
in that each domain name is associated with a registrar, but UK domains
actually get a tag, which is displayed in the WHOIS output. To transfer a
domain to OpenSRS, you need to get onto the current registrar and tell them
to release the domain to Tusows IPSTAG. They should then send a request to
the Automaton (just an automated systems using PGP) to make the change.
The problem is that this is as new to Tucows as it is to us, and they didn't
really know this themselves. I've been trying to do it for a couple weeks,
but between the incompetence of my host and the fact that I was using the
wrong IPSTAG, it's dragging out. I've ased Scott to send me the right IPSTAG
for Tucows, and I hope to finally get it sorted out next week.
As to the "adminstrative fee" that Easyspace are talking about, well, that's
daylight robbery, but if it says it in the contract, you gotta pay it...
