If you are using these nameservers for OpenSRS names, then they *have* to
be registered.  You can query nameservers via whois, either command line
and querying whois.crsnic.net, or you can check
http://www.networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois (for example):

   Server Name: DNS1.TUCOWS.COM
   IP Address: 216.40.37.11
   Registrar: TUCOWS, INC.
   Whois Server: whois.opensrs.net
   Referral URL: www.opensrs.org
