How long to re-activate?

Exactly how is a domain de-activated?

i.e. I have just renewed a couple of domains after the customers' registrar
who she is now a reseller for failed to act on her transfer requests, so her
expiry/de-activation was today and her sites are offline. OpenSRS Whois now
has new expiry in a year - will this go in the 5:00 pm update and her sites
will be live again then tonight?
