The affiliate id can be anything you want. All that's required is that it
be passed to the reg_system.cgi script as "affiliate_id=youraffiliateid".

For example, if you invoke reg_system with a URL of:

http://www.yourserver.com/cgi-bin/reg_system.cgi?affiliate_id=aff01211

Then any orders that result from that session will have an affiliate id of
"aff01211" tied to them. You can create them at will.

Note that the OpenSRS system does very little with the affiliate id. It
*does* store the id with the order, and tracks some statistics specifically
per affiliate id. In addition, you can (from the reseller interface) set up
custom acknowledgement messages based on the affiliate id.

Other than that, payments for domains registered under an affiliate id still
come out of your account, so you're responsible to build a front-end system
that will properly track and charge your affiliates for their orders.

In our case, we use the affiliate id as a "loyalty" indicator, and will
automatically credit the affiliate's account for orders that are placed
under their affiliate id. We also have one affiliate-specific response
message set up.

Hope that helps...
