As my company is listed as the tech-c on 1000+ domains registered via
OpenSRS and my company changed address recently, those addresses registered
with OpenSRS are all wrong.
As many of my customers have access to their own domain data (which is what
I feel one of the advantages of OpenSRS, giving the customer real-time
access to whois data), I cannot possibly ask all my customers to update MY
data. Although the OpenSRS have promised to have handles in place since
ages, still no sign. Op top of that they do not offer the option to change
the data from their end. The data is all the same, so a simple SQL Query
searching and replacing the tech-c data is sufficient.
So although handles would be very nice (and I'd like to be able to
administer my handles through the OpenSRS client, not at another registrar),
my major concern is the tech-c.
I think the OpenSRS developer should have the following template
owner data
adminc or IdOfHandle
billingc or IdOfHandle
techc or IdOfHandle
nameservers or IdOfNSHandle
If I then (as ISP/RSP) decide to register this domain for my customer, who
will have full access to the data at all times, not me, I will be able to
edit my techc data and nameservers WITHOUT editiing every domain one by one.
In other words: a clients specifies a handle OR data.
I see the techc-handle- and nshandle would be used most, the adminc and
billingc handles just for very big customers, although I would set up a
separate profiles for the customer if they own domains under two names. Then
they can use the standard OpenSRS client to access and change their data.
Conclusion: OpenSRS needs to add an optional Handlefield to every type of
contact.
