Somebody responded to me offlist with a note indicating that
this could easily be misinterpreted. Before everybody goes
off on a flame war, let me clarify my intentions:

- I don't fault OpenSRS if they did sell the information to
NSI. They have no choice in the matter; per their agreement
with ICANN they _must_ provide the information to anybody
who can come up with the requisite fee.

- I have no doubt that OpenSRS has conducted themselves
with the utmost integrity. That has never been a question
for me. Further, I have no doubt that NSI has seldom
conducted themselves with much integrity. Time and again
I've watched NSI fail to resolve problems that benefit
them financially, and take questionable marketing
approaches. My scorn, without exception, falls on NSI,
  NOT OpenSRS.

- I *AM* curious to know if NSI acquired this information
through "legitimate" channels, or if they got it through
mechanisms (like WHOIS mining) that they themselves decry
as a misuse of WHOIS. That's my real question -- did
NSI "steal" this information, or did they get it through
  proper channels?

Regards,
Eric Longman
