This seems to me an interesting (and morally reprehensible!) tactic.
Anyone else know similar things?

Speaking of domain transfers, I just got what appears to be an invoice from
NSI, except that it has Interland splashed all over it.  Basically, they
are asking me to renew this domain (which doesn't expire till Oct.), and
that I should make a payment or "[I] risk losing it to another
party".  It's pretty convincing.  By it wants me to make checks payable to
Interland, not NSI!  Look familiar?  Tactics of the long distance phone
carriers?  I'll bet if I paid this bill, they'd switch my registrar...
