FYI:
Just got a call today from a fellow that said he was from
the 'Customer Support Team' - a business affiliate of Network Solutions with
whom my domain name is registered and he wished to talk to me about my
domain name. He left me a toll-free number and a reference number. I called
back. The automated attnedant makes it sound like a customer support line
and gives options to register domain names and pre-register .info or .biz.
After listening I selected as instructed in my voicemail message and spoke
with a 'customer support' representative that tried to convince me to
purchase my .net and .org domain names.
Now this burns my but for a number of reasons.
1) The whole marketing process is disguised as customer support(clearly a
less-informed end-user would be left with the impression that there is some
kind of trouble with their domain name)
2) They also clearly stated in the voicemail message that the domain name
was registered through them (this is of course untrue) which would further
make an uniformed end-user believe that this was a customer support call.
You may want to warn the unwary....
And some of you guys still get your cert's from these guys...
Why don't you just invite them in so they can sleep with your
wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/lover too?...:^)
