I answered offlist a little differently, and have done a little more discovery.
Initially I thought there was almost 2 days between the initial order, and the registration of 6xtv.com (this may still be the case, waiting for verification from Daniel). However, I DO know that our "Registry Agents" (the components that speak to the registries), when they do not receive a response for domain availability (recognizable or otherwise) within a certain time frame (don't know exactly, I think it's 90 seconds), will default to "Domain Taken". This ensures that we don't attempt to register domains that "may or may not exist", which places undue traffic at the registry level (especially when their performance is degraded), and can cause difficulties for our system at large.
