The registry and registrar having a few entries made in their databases by a totally automated system at the request of the registrant does not compare well to building a building. In fact it compares very badly. I think it unlikely that you'll ever find a satisfactory analogy to domain name registration. There may be superficial likenesses with some financial instruments like taxes or insurance, but all the analogies I've seen break down way before you can start making predictions about how the entire system will function in response to different stimuli.
