Two words: CASH GRAB
I agree that the reason was probably cash grab.
But I prefer this prolongated first registration period.
This
- prevents some domain grabbing (not the premium names, but evensimple names have been blocked by grabbers for the *.com/*.net/*.org because of low pricing and short registration periods and customers had to declare they will not pay the grabber and had to wait until domain expired)
- I do not wish to make a billing every year for each customers with a profit of $ 2-3 each domain
I prefere longer registration periods.
