<RR> I get the sense that CIRA has imposed stronger regulations for .CA
than what the average user would see with CNNIC in .CN....<

Ross from what context? Residency? Because that's about as restrictive
as CIRA gets and frankly I support that, if some Californian gets PO'd
because they can't get a .CA boo hoo. But if you think for a moment CIRA
would restrict me from freedom of speech on a .ca versus what cnnic
would on a .com.cn then you are way off base here.

At the end of the day I think it's a bad move to offer these names and I
seriously doubt/hope many resellers will/wont bite.

I have met & worked with some of the CNNIC folks at various ICANN
meetings and on multilingual domain issues over the years and they are
great people who love the internet and are doing great work over
there...but censorship, human rights and freedom of expression are
things that the Chinese government denies its own people and guess what
..if you buy a .cn domain they can impose some of that power on those of
us who live in the "free world". Sorry but not in my backyard. Hey how
about selling .iq or maybe .cu next?!?! :-S
