In my (admittedly very limited) experience, you think you just want something simple and lightweight and then quickly discover you actually need more and more features. Nagios was designed for exactly this sort of thing. While it isn't a "15 minute" solution, the ~half a day you'd spend getting a basic Nagios setup in place is probably worth it.
