The Center for Democracy & Technology has a new San Francisco office, and they're looking for tech interns for a technical project at the intersection of policy and technology.

From my conversations with Raeanne, I get the feeling that it will
focus on browser extensions related to privacy awareness. That's still tentative, so don't take that as a promise. But if that sort of thing is up your alley, you might want to talk to her.

The internship is unpaid, sadly, but I can offer you that you could hang out with me in San Francisco and other lovely people such as EFF's Seth David Schoen. (-:

Subject: Internships at the Center for Democracy and Technology, SF

Hey everyone,
We're currently hiring tech interns at CDT in San Francisco. If you know anyone interested in applying, feel free to forward them my info and the announce below. It should be a great project and you'll get to work with Chris at ACLU and Seth at EFF too.

PS- We're also hiring two fulltime positions in our office in DC, a Web Producer <http://cdt.org/staff/producer.php> and New Media person <http://cdt.org/staff/newmedia.php>.

The Center for Democracy & Technology’s San Francisco office (“CDT West”) is currently accepting applications for an unpaid, full-time summer 2009 internship. This internship is designed for undergraduates and graduate students with technical skills and an interest in Internet policy and civil liberties. CDT West expects to have one to two summer interns in its San Francisco office in 2009.

The CDT West summer internship offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of policy affecting the future of the Internet. We encourage applicants to review the CDT website (www.cdt.org) to better understand the nature and breadth of CDT’s work. The CDT West internship will focus on online advertising issues and is specifically designed for students in computer science or those with programming skills. Projects will include the development of online tools, such as a browser extension that will help users protect their online privacy.

Summer internship applicants should have an interest in Internet and technology policy, strong technical and analytic skills, the ability to take initiative, and a solid academic record. Specific programming experience in writing browser extensions and/or knowledge of JavaScript is preferred. We ask that interns work full-time for at least 10 weeks during the summer. Internships are unpaid positions.

Please send a resume and a cover letter explaining your interest in CDT to [email protected]. Deadline for submission is March 1, 2009. Applicants will be notified by April 1, 2009.
