I meant to respond ages ago. I'm glad this came back up. I'm Isaac from the Grinnell group that was at the conference. (Hi Alec!) Yes, we use BATMAN/adv in our mesh. It's not half bad, but there's definitely room for improvement on the mesh protocol front. We're also hacking Diaspora to work on grinnellMIND - every network needs a killer app. We don't have code of our own, but we contribute to global-scale open-source projects to suit our needs. I do hope you'll explore our wiki, though. In particular, take a look at our roadmap to network that is owned by the whole of humanity. It could use some work, but then, that's the whole point of a wiki!
