I think bitcoin is extremely awesome but oipen source hardware is even
moreso.

Arduino - http://arduino.org/
Reprap - http://www.reprap.org/wiki/Main_Page

I'd also reach out to the coworking and hackerspace communities.  They're
completely aligned with the free culture movement.  I can help connect you
