Hello folks,

David and Joe from Open Access Button have reached out to FCF to see if our
student members would be interested in helping out in their awesome Open
Access Button initiative! These guys are passionate about open access and
deploying this tool to help those affected by the broken scholarly research
publishing system we have today. This tool will help students and
researchers globally. I believe they are looking to launch during Open
Access Week. It would be fantastic if someone from our group could
help/join their team!

See the email below for more details on how you can help.

Many thanks,
Jen

Hi Free Culture Foundation.

Everyone has hit a paywall. Each person hitting a paywall is an indictment
of our current scholarly publishing system. We can’t settle for living in a
broken system, where people are denied access to research they need, and
ultimately paid for.

We are David Carroll and Joseph McArthur, two students from the UK's
student global health network, Medsin-UK and we're working on a project
called Open Access Button. Our project is a browser-based tool which tracks
how often people are denied access to academic research. The tool also
knows where in the world they are, their profession and why they were
looking for that research. The tool combines this information into one
place and creates a real time, worldwide, interactive map of the problem.
The integration of social media a allows us to make this problem visible to
the world. We also help the person gain access to the paper they’ve been
denied access to in the first place.

At the moment, our launch is on the horizon. We're looking students (both
undergraduate and postgraduate, from all subjects) from all over the world
to join us and as members of the Right to Research Coalition, we thought
we'd contact you first. We would appreciate if you circulated this widely
amongst the student population.

*We are looking for people to fill the following roles: *
