[Commentary] Although San Francisco's Earthlink-Google citywide Wi-fi
partnership could have worked, its demise may be a blessing because of
Earthlink's shaky finances. Topography, cost, changing technology, and a
patchwork of existing Wi-Fi service all make San Francisco a special case. But
the goal of providing fast, reliable and low-cost service remains a worthwhile
one.
