How about an .unwrap method to do the opposite of .wrap?

jQuery.fn.unwrap = function (el) {
    return this.each( function(){
      $(this.childNodes).appendTo(this.parentNode);
    });
};

 $('label').unwrap().remove();

I guess it's really more like .dumpChildrenOnGrandparent, but .unwrap is
shorter. :)
