the original regexp matches $('[EMAIL PROTECTED]'"jtip'"]'). Hardly what one 
would
want, of course no experienced programmer would ever do that, a pathological
junior might. Is this to get around a bug in  internet explorer's poor
regular expression handling?

It seems like the quote matching should be done this way to avoid some
pathological cases:

  "\\[ *(@)S *([!*$^=]*) *(['\"]?)(.*?)\\4 *\\]",

But even as it is, it should accept either quote style.
